Kwame Kilpatrick: You know, that Kwame Kilpatrick is a lot like Ghandi, MLK, and Nelson Mandela

Kwame Kilpatrick appears to be in a revolutionary mood, which is totally understandable.  I mean, he was “the Hip-Hop Mayor.”  He was a rising star in his political party.  He was simply trying to do the people’s business and continue Detroit’s renaissance.  And let’s be honest:  each and every one of us knows that when you do the people’s business, it’s just naturally going to involve some light fraud, extortion, kickbacks and bribes.  That’s just the way things roll.  And when the government gets in your face and tries to stop you from doing the people’s business, well… sometimes a man has to namecheck Ghandi and MLK:

Since his indictment on corruption charges, Kwame Kilpatrick’s official Twitter account has extolled civil disobedience.

The messages evoke Ghandi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. and mention the American Revolution and the students at Tiananmen Square.

“When government acts against the interests of its people, disobedience may be warranted,” read a message. “When government acts in a hateful manner, disobedience may be warranted.”

Kilpatrick was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday for allegedly turning City Hall into a criminal enterprise. His father, Bernard, and three associates also were charged with corruption.

…Two messages a day have been posted since the indictment Wednesday.

“We must obey God rather than men,” read a message on the day of the indictment.

“People may be compelled to disobey the law under two types of responsibility — moral and spiritual,” said a message the next day.

“Ghandi (sic) in India rightfully disobeyed the government” was posted Saturday.

Clearly, the laws against fraud and extortion in this country are totally immoral and unjust.  After all, they’re now being used to keep this young, promising African-American politician from supporting his family and spending some good father-son bonding time with his dad.  It’s just sad.

Meanwhile: Kilpatrick ‘conducted a thorough enterprise,’ says U.S. attorney.

[US Attorney Barbara McQuade] Explaining why the case is being prosecuted under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, statute: “Because it fits the kind of crimes the RICO statute was intended for. The pattern of racketeering activity we have here involves bribery, extortion, fraud and tax violations. And it went on over a long period of time. The administration of Kwame Kilpatrick conducted a thorough enterprise, so I think all the hallmarks of a racketeering conspiracy were there.”

Public Service and Civic Virtue in Detroit

Kwame Kilpatrick
Still Rollin' with Kwame

…are apparently understood differently than they are in most of the rest of the country:

federal grand jury today indicted former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his father and three former top aides on racketeering charges, accusing them of turning the mayor’s office into a criminal enterprise to enrich themselves, families and friends.

Besides the now-jailed former mayor, the 38-count indictment names his father, Bernard Kilpatrick, city contractor Bobby Ferguson, former top Kilpatrick aide Derrick Miller and former water department chief Victor Mercado in one of the largest public corruption investigations ever in the City of Detroit…

…The 89-page indictment outlined four general areas of misconduct.

It said the defendants extorted money from municipal contractors, state and non-profit donors and engaged in bribery and extortion involving other public contracts and investments.

As a friend who hails from SE Michigan reminds me, the only people who are left in Detroit are those who can’t afford to leave.  You can imagine what happens to the voter base when the situation gets that bad.  Hence, they elect crooks like Kilpatrick and the city enters the final phase of its death spiral.

But I gotta remember:  He didn’t just get up in here by just comin’; y’all sent him up in here!  So I gotta be careful ’bout how I talk about yawz boi…

It Was All Lies.

Quote of the year, Health Care category:

It’s a bit late in the day to ask whether President Obama made a single truthful argument in favor of Obamacare. Yet he and his congressional allies probably didn’t expect the exposure of their lies to begin quite this soon after their nationalization of health care.

Throw the damn liars out.  Every last filthy one of them.

Honest Democrats are Rare and Precious

…and should be kept away from Congress like the rest of them all the same.  Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello had this to say back in March:

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned up here (in Washington) and I didn’t really need to come up here to learn it, is the only way to get Congress to balance the budget is to give them no choice, and the only way to keep them out of the cookie jar is to give them no choice, which is why – whether it’s balanced budget acts or pay as you go legislation or any of that – is the only thing. If you don’t tie our hands, we will keep stealing”

Here’s the video:

For once, I believe we have a case of a Congressman telling us the truth.  I look forward to seeing this chump’s hand’s tied in November.  Hopefully he’ll  be sent safely away from the Capitol where he can’t do any more legislative damage.

In Shocking Turn Of Events, CBO Announces That Congress Is Filled With Deceitful Scum

Alternate headline: THEY LIED.  But we knew that before they passed this rancid loaf, didn’t we?  And frankly, they’ve been confirming that ever since.

Regardless, here’s the news that anyone with any intelligence and honesty knew was coming:

Congressional Budget Office estimates released Tuesday predict the health care overhaul will likely cost about $115 billion more in discretionary spending over ten years than the original cost projections.

The additional spending — if approved over the years by Congress — would bring the total estimated cost of the overhaul to over $1 trillion.

Republicans pounced on the news, which they called another sign that the Obama administration makes promises it cannot deliver…

…But a Democratic leadership aide on Capitol Hill said the Congress will have to stay within the budget.

“Just like other authorized programs, the discretionary programs in health reform will need to compete for funds within set budgetary limits,” the aide said. “Republicans fighting to repeal reform can say what they want, but the bottom line is that CBO says reform will reduce the deficit and slow the growth of health care costs — period.”

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection notes that the miserable politicians who voted for this monstrosity can now only claim to be disappointed in this news if they also acknowledge that they “…willingly ignored warnings that they were selling public policy based on phony numbers.”  Which, of course, they won’t, because by and large they are the largest collection of unprincipled filth to ever collect on Capitol Hill.

Henry Waxman
His mom thinks he's cute.

Let me take a moment to address the pathetic argument of the idiotic Democratic leadership aide, who claims that “the bottom line is that CBO says reform will reduce the deficit and slow the growth of health care costs – period.”  Hey, idiot: CBO estimates are only as good as the numbers your dirtbag lying bosses in the Democrat caucus feed into CBO.  In other words, GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT.   Basing your claim of cost savings on the CBO estimates that came from the goofy numbers that Pelosi and Reid cooked up is something akin to basing your claim to being the sexiest man alive on your mother’s opinion that you’re a very handsome lad.  In all likelihood, the evidence has been shaded in your favor and your claim is going to be demolished upon first contact with reality.

And of course, reality hasn’t been kind to Obamacare supporters since they cast their votes.  Recall that Henry Waxman and his stormtroopers already found this out when they had to cancel their assault on companies which reported – as required by law – that Obamacare was going to cause them to take massive financial losses.  Again, no surprise to anyone who has, well, basic intelligence and observation skills.

Of course, none of this is really a surprise to the Dems.  Waxman screwed up in that he didn’t forsee how one element of his massive regulatory state would interact with the new element.  This was all expected; they rammed it through presuming that once Obamacare was in place, inertia would make it impossible to roll back and we’d all just accept that higher taxes and everything else were inevitable.  They scheme, they lie, they crave power.  We need to slap them down in November.

Liars.

Liar.

Filthy, stinking, brazen liars:

The economic report released last week by Health and Human Services, which indicated that President Barack Obama’s health care “reform” law would actually increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on consumers, had been submitted to the office of HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius more than a week before the Congressional votes on the bill, according to career HHS sources, who added that Sebelius’s staff refused to review the document before the vote was taken.

MY EYES! ZE GOGGLES, ZEY DO NUSSING!
dirty, dirty liars

“The reason we were given was that they did not want to influence the vote,” says an HHS source. “Which is actually the point of having a review like this, you would think.”

The analysis, performed by Medicare’s Office of the Actuary, which in the past has been identified as a “nonpolitical” office, set off alarm bells when submitted. “We know a copy was sent to the White House via their legislative affairs staff,” says the HHS staffer, “and there were a number of meetings here almost right after the analysis was submitted to the secretary’s office. Everyone went into lockdown, and people here were too scared to go public with the report.”

Gabriel Malor:

So in addition to midnight votes and bribes to reluctant Congressmen, the Obama folks sat on government reports, reports that the taxpayers paid for, which would have shined a light on the President’s healthcare reform lies. And that’s what they were. He can’t plead ignorance. His own actuaries were telling him it would raise premiums while he was going on TV and saying the opposite.

Jim Hoft:

When Nancy Pelosi told America, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it,” she forgot to mention that democrats already knew what was in it. They just didn’t want the rest of the country to find out.

If we had a responsible media this would make headlines for about the next year and a half.

November cannot come soon enough.  I am salivating over the opportunity to vote this year.  I want these people to hurt at the polls.  I want them shamed. Of course, that assumes that they have the capacity to feel shame any more.

Democrats Lie. It’s Just What They Do.

Liars:

Basically, this is an admission that the numbers the Democrats submitted to the CBO were entirely false, and that they plan to make this bill a deficit expander in the spring.  It’s a breathtaking admission of deceit and hypocrisy — and its exposure should have the media asking more questions about that CBO scoring and putting Democrats in the hot seat over it.

Obama’s Swindle

In an ideal world, we would actually listen to Thomas Sowell and would thus avoid a ton of economic and social pain.  Unfortunately we do not live in an ideal world.  At NRO, Sowell points out something that needs to be understood far and wide:

In a swindle that would make Bernie Madoff look like an amateur, Barack Obama has gotten a substantial segment of the population to believe that he can add millions of people to the government-insured rolls without increasing the already record-breaking federal deficit.

Thomas Sowell
Thomas Sowell is actually smart and worth listening to

EXACTLY.  This whole “debate” that we’re having over “health care reform” consists of Obama and his Democrat spirit squad asserting things that simply aren’t true (we’re gonna do this without adding a dime to the deficit; you won’t have to change your insurance plan if you don’t like it; our reform will actually control costs; etc); conservatives pointing out and demonstrating that the Democrat assertions aren’t true; and Obama and his Democrat spirit squad simply asserting the same things over again, as if repetition will make it true.  At this point, it’s no stretch to say that Obama is simply a bald-faced liar, as are his minions in Congress like Reid and Pelosi.

The Obama health-care plan can be financed without increasing the federal deficit — if the administration takes hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare. But Medicare itself does not have enough money to pay its own way over time.

However money is juggled in the short run, the government’s financial liabilities are increased by adding this huge new entitlement of government-provided insurance. The fact that these new financial liabilities can be kept out of the official federal deficit projection, by claiming that they will be paid for with money taken from Medicare, changes nothing in the real world.

I can say that I can afford to buy a Rolls Royce, without going into debt, by using my inheritance from a rich uncle. But, in the real world, the question would arise immediately whether I in fact have a rich uncle, not to mention whether this hypothetical rich uncle would be likely to leave me enough money to buy a Rolls Royce.

They are lying.  They’re simply lying.

An even more transparent gimmick is collecting money for the new Obama health-care program for the first ten years but delaying the payments of its benefits for four years. By collecting money for ten years and spending it for only six years, you can make the program look self-supporting, but only on paper and only in the short run.

This is a game you can play just once, during the first decade. After that, you are going to be collecting money for ten years and paying out money for ten years. That is when you discover that your uncle doesn’t have enough money to support himself, much less leave you an inheritance to pay for a Rolls Royce.

But a postponed revelation is not part of the official federal deficit today. And that provides a talking point, in order to soothe people who take talking points seriously.

“Fraud has been at the heart of this medical-care takeover plan from Day One.”  Sowell is right.  We’re “reforming” health care through a process so dishonest and corrupt, if it was the sale of a used car all 50 state Attorneys General would be all over it like stink on a monkey.  Feel good about this yet?

What’s The Point, Suicide Squad?

Ramesh Ponnuru makes a point that I’ve been thinking of since the weekend, which is – what difference does it make if the dems use the Slaughter rule to pass the bill in terms of the political response?  I mean, they don’t want to vote for the actual bill because it’s politically toxic, so they’re going to vote for the unpopular bill that’s politically toxic to pass under an unprecedented abuse-of-power rape-the-constitution style parliamentary trick?

Any House Democrat who votes for the rule that allows the Senate bill to be deemed passed will be voting for the Senate bill. A foreseeable consequence of that vote is that the Senate bill may become law while some of the fixes the House votes for do not. It is entirely fair for Republican opponents of any House Democrat who votes for the Slaughter rule to tie him to the Senate bill. Republicans will be able to say, fairly, that such a House Democrat has voted for the Senate bill—kickbacks and all—and tried to hide the fact. Republicans may as well point out now that that’s exactly what they’re going to do.

AAAAGH.  Welcome to my nightmare, people.  So many unprincipled people in one place with power to make a decision that will clearly have detrimental effects on my future.

And yes, I realize that the point has nothing to do with politicians acting rationally, it’s all about setting up a permanent left-leaning welfare state constituency, gaining power by any means necessary, etc etc…

Scott Brown Tells The Truth

Scott Brown in Army Uniform
Scott Brown can be pretty dang awesome sometimes.

Delivering the Republican response to President Pantsonfire’s weekly cavalcade of leftist BS:

Somehow, the greater the public opposition to the healthcare bill, the more determined they seem to force it on us anyway. Their attitude shows Washington at its very worst – the presumption that they know best, and they’re going to get their way whether the American people like it or not.

And, when politicians start thinking like that, they don’t let anything get in their way – not public opinion, not the rules of fair play, not even their own promises.

They pledged transparency. Instead, we have a healthcare bill tainted by secrecy, concealed cost, and full of backroom deals – and that’s just not right. They should do better. The American people expect more.
